Vesper Public Relations. Los Angeles. June 2017. Two-time GRAMMY nominees, Regional Mexican music group VOZ DE MANDO presented a check for $5,000 to the immigrant rights organization COFEM (Consejo de Federaciones Mexicanas en Norteamérica) – one of the most influential immigrant organizations in the U.S.

The dollar amount represents the first two weeks of royalties for the VOZ DE MANDO song “Soldado Latinamericano,” a song which has become an anthem of the immigrant community, and VOZ DE MANDO declared all proceeds from the song will go to COFEM.

The money raised and donated will fund educational scholarships for Latinos living in the U.S. The group’s single has become an anthem for immigrants – from dreamers to hourly laborers – strengthening their commitment to their journey, the American Dream and the necessity of immigrant rights.

The presentation took place during the band’s concert at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena last week. Adding to this great moment the band was presented with a special recognition on behalf of California Senator Kevin De Leon for their support of the Latino community.

COFEM is a non-profit organization aimed at creating opportunities for Latino Immigrants in North America, with a special focus in California. VOZ DE MANDO announced the donation and scholarships at a press conference at Plaza Mexico in Los Angeles and acknowledged to the crowd that the immigrant population lives with a sense of insecurity about their future in pursuing their dreams in the U.S.

“Creating this alliance with Consejo de Federaciones Mexicanas en Norteamérica (COFEM) is very important to us as it helps us support Latino immigrants in this country as well as their children – the Dreamers,” said Jorge Gaxiola, founder and singer of Voz de Mando. “This song is about the journey so many Latinos make – coming across the border, escaping political conflict, believing in the American Dream, watching their children enter the service to protect this country and that dream. We want to make sure that our dream – both the American Dream and the dream that the D.A.C.A. kids have – continue to be supported and understood. Latinos are a vital part of this country, and we want to support them and the continuing educational opportunities to keep it growing.”

Present at the press conference were VOZ DE MANDO, which includes the founders and brothers Jorge and Miguel Gaxiola along with COFEM Miguel Ángel Pérez, President of the Board of Directors, Vice President Raúl Macias and Executive Director Anabella Bastida.

“Soldado Latinoamericano”
Written by: Ernesto Rico Hernandez
Songs of Matanga Publishing

“I used to live very happy
With my family close to me
But I knew very well
What my job was

What ironies of life
That the American dream pushes me away from my family
It took me to a distant country
To fight against political conflicts
To kill human beings

By law I’m a U.S. soldier
But in fact I’m an Inca a Catarcho
I am Boricua, Chapin a 100% Mexican.

I’m a warrior, I’m Latino, I’m Hispanic
If I wasn’t afraid of the wild desert and Bravo river
I’m not afraid of the enemy
I’m not even afraid of the devil
So you can see Mr. President what we are made of
Put me on the front line

I won’t run away from my fate
I’m brave for what’s in my blood
But I want to come back home
