23 Apr Twin sister duo Las Marías share their personal story of deportation on new single “De La Finikera”
Las Marías, the twin sister duo that is captivating audiences, presents their new single, “De La Finikera.” The word Finikera is Mexican/American slang for the word Phoenix, in reference to those who live in the city.
In this emotional song of the Sierreño genre, Las Marías relate a fragment of their life’s story, how they rose up after the deportation of their parents. Although they had to leave Phoenix – their native land – the border town of Nogales, in the Mexican state of Sonora, welcomed them, making it their second home. Despite this drastic change, María Teresa and María Isabel are grateful for this path that God put them on because they could learn more about Mexican culture and music, which they now represent with great pride.
“De La Finikera” is the song the twin duo chose to perform on the new NBC program “American Song Contest,” where they represented their home state of Arizona.
“De La Finikera” is available on all digital platforms and YouTube.
