Vesper Public Relation. January 2025. On his forthcoming album “Peace With a Lion,” Guatemalan-born singer-songwriter David Lindes stares abandonment in the face, looking back on his own father’s betrayal in his infancy, and issuing a heartfelt promise to break the cycle for his own children.

On a deeply bicultural album that draws inspiration from folk styles throughout the Americas, Lindes tells stories of healing. He looks unflinchingly at childhood wounds and walks his listeners along the path of discovery and self-compassion. Equal parts Cat Stevens and Silvio Rodriguez, his lyrics are rich and literary, delving into life’s biggest questions with the help of folk, blues, and Caribbean elements.

Felix Contreras, from NPR Music, has said about Lindes’ efforts on the album, “He’s offering up his own healing, out to the world, for all the healing we need to do right now.”

In the title track “Peace With a Lion,” a moving folk ballad, Lindes likens his father’s abandonment to a vicious, crippling attack by a predator, asking with both urgency and bafflement, “How do you make peace with a lion?”

“Jardinero,” which means gardener in Spanish, is a warm, acoustic take on lush, Caribbean rhythms and melodies. In it, Lindes uses these verdant sounds to build a safe, beautiful garden for his own children. One where they can live free of fear.

“With these songs, I’m really asking one of the biggest questions of my life: Can a life that has taken abuse and abandonment as input still manage to output something different? Something more beautiful? To me, out of sheer need, the answer has to be yes.”

Grammy® Winner Alex Cuba describes his role in producing the album as “a huge responsibility to shine a light on David’s beautiful voice and message, especially in a time like today, when so many are looking for ways to heal their spirits.”

Lindes will kick off the album launch with a concert in Mexico City on Feb 8, 2025, at Casa Florecer, a spiritual center in the woods surrounding the city. He describes the show as “an intimate affair that will be part concert and part healing circle. It’ll include songs, stories from my life, and even a ceremonial element.” He’ll also encourage concert goers to talk about their own pain and recovery. An official album launch event will follow in Los Angeles in the Spring of 2025.
