The “Save the Jungle” project was started in the summer of 2015 by Tanya Mayahuel Torres, host of the radio program Canto Sin Fronteras as a personal effort to save the jungle of the high mountains of the municipality of Juchique de Ferrer, Veracruz, Mexico. Little by little this land has been devastated by the logging of trees for livestock and agriculture.
This effort started in October of 2016 when Tanya Mayahuel Torres decided to dedicate the savings of her life to buy 3.75 hectares of virgin forest to turn them into a sanctuary of protection and preservation. This act inspired other ecologists to want to join the effort and this is how the group “Guardians of the Earth” was born. The group is now holding its first fundraising activity in benefit of the Veracruz Tropical Forest.
