DJ REKHAâ€™s Movement Begins Its Residency at The Conga Room on Thursday January 20, 2011

The critically acclaimed leader of the Bhangra music movement that has spread from New York, Chicago, & beyond Ms. Rekha Malhotra, better known as DJ Rekha brings her dance movement to Los Angeles on a residency at The Conga Room that starts on Thursday January 20, 2011 at 8 p.m., located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90015.
DJ Rekha has succeeded in putting Bhangra (an infectious mix of South Asian dance music and Hip Hop beats) and Indian pop on the map of music consciousness with a message of unity & DANCE! Â Basement Bhangra has enticed the ears of many and has successfully sold out for over 10 years in New York and Los Angeles is the next city ready to embrace this musical movement.
â€œFor a decade DJ Rekha has been host of the monthly Basement Bhangra parties in New YorkÂ which were among the first to introduce New York audiences to bhangra, the Punjabi club music that wound up on hits by Jay-Z and Missy Elliot and on cult favorites by M.I.A.â€ stated by the New York Times.
Also joining DJ Rekha on this spectacular night, live percussions by Dhol Nation Live, Asian Underground Lounge by DJ Dere4k Rath and opening sets by DJ Sandeep Kumar, DJ Nitro, BenG, Doc bLAdez plus Blue 13 Dance Company Class, Complimentary Bhangra & Bollywood Lessons start at 8:30 p.m.
After its rebirth in the LA LIVE center in downtown Los Angeles, The Conga Room continues to foster entertainment history by bringing musical legends and contemporary international icons together in an intimate stage in the heart of one of the worldâ€™s creative cradles – the city of Angels.
