WHAT:          Two young patients will be the guests of honor at a celebration fully outfitted with a videogame bus and soccer sports theme in honor of two patients representing their favorite hobbies. The event is to be held at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles thanks to the philanthropic support of CHLA’s Los Compadres, a philanthropic group, comprised of Latino community influencers and Leaders, and in-kind support of community business donors, who are providing Kevin and Ricardo with a unique event to celebrate them and their strength during their medical journey.

Last year in January 2014, CHLA partnered with EC Hispanic Media to celebrate Frida Lagunas, a 15-year cancer survivor in providing her with a private Quinceañera party for her and her family.

WHO:            Ricardo Alvarez is a 16-year-old patient at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles who was diagnosed cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. The average age of survival for people with CF is early 40’s. And while life expectancy has increased, there’s no cure for this condition at the moment.  Ricardo’s passion is video gaming, the one passion that his illness does not prevent him from doing. He enjoys listening to music and loves dancing to banda. Reaching this milestone is a huge celebration for him and his family.

Kevin Mercado is a 16- year-old patient at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was recently diagnosed with leukemia in April 2014 . He is currently undergoing treatment and is doing well. A cancer diagnosis for any teen can be devastating.  A coming of age celebration for this avid soccer fan is special as he will be able to share this experience with his family and friends.

Chiquis Rivera, American Regional Mexican singer and eldest daughter of Latin Grammy nominated singer Jenni Rivera.

Erika Vidrio, the most recorded female composer in the Regional Mexican genre and current host of “La Raza,” will be in charge of the event’s music entertainment.

Kevin Ortiz Latin pop singer and brother of singer and songwriter Gerardo Ortiz.

Jorge Miramontes, news correspondent for ‘Al Rojo Vivo” of Telemundo network will kick off the celebration as host and emcee for the teen celebration event.
