Universal City, CA – Thursday July 23, 2009 – Regional Mexican sounds of ‘Banda’ heartthrobs Yolanda Perez and Alex Alvarado take over the 3rd annual Telemundo and mun2’s “Descarga” stage on Sunday July 26, 2009.

On this edition of “Descarga”, Regional Mexican – one of the top selling Latin music genres – will showcase performances from Certified RIAA/Gold recording ‘Banda’ artist Yolanda Perez and ‘Banda’ heartthrob singer/songwriter Alex Alvarado. It promises to be a truly special evening, proving the diverse musical sounds that “Descarga” has to offer as one of the leading free outdoor music events series in Southern California.

With a career that spans more than 10 years, Yolanda Perez is one of the most important Regional Mexican female artists of her generation. At only 25 years of age, Yolanda is a pioneer that continues to make inroads in Latin music.

Lauded as the ‘next big thing’ early on in her career by the Los Angeles Times, she has become a media darling in the East and West coasts, garnering accolades from high-profile publications such as Latina, People En Español, Los Angeles Magazine, Jane, Vibe (featured on the highest circulation issue ‘The Most Juicy ’- with Barack Obama on the cover- in 2007) while captivating young audiences in the United States thanks to her sassy melodic brand of contemporary bi-lingual Regional Mexican music. www.myspace.com/yolandaperez1

Alex Alvarado

Mexico native Alex Alvarado has been performing since he was a teenager, as the lead vocalist for the band Karembe.  He went on to become a part of El Cerrito, a group with which he traveled throughout Mexico and later settled in the United States to study music and English. Alvarado then returned to Mexico as a part of the renowned band La Incontenible Banda Astilleros, continuing to develop his craft as a singer and initiating his career as a songwriter. It is during his time with La Incontenible that he writes “Que Quiere La Banda”, the theme song to Aventura Musical (Musical Adventure), a music show in which Alvarado also participated as host.  Now a solo act, Alex Alvarado will perform songs from his current album titled “ El Ruidito” (That Noise) distributed by renowned Regional Mexican label Three Sound Records.

Now in its 3rd consecutive year “Descarga” has solidified its status as one of the leading free outdoor music events in Southern California, drawing over 70,000 fans by showcasing international, national, and emerging talent as well as DJ performances on an outdoor stage in CityWalk.  Since its inception in 2007, “Descarga” continues to build on its overwhelming success by delivering on its mission: to provide Latino artists and audiences with the best in quality entertainment with a phenomenal promotional platform and, in this way, becoming ‘the must play concert series’ for Latino artists touring in Southern California.
