La Santa Cecilia takes their name after the ‘Patron Saint of Musicians’, are a six-member band who defies all musical genres and languages with innovative fusions of Regional Mexican, Punk, Jewish Klezmer, and continues to garner public acclaim as the bilingual and multicultural group that seamlessly brings all genres home from South of the border. Mixes of infectious bossa nova, joyous cumbia, melancholic bolero, incandescent tango and riveting percussion and jazz blend with the strong and soulful voice of lead singer Marisoul, a passionate charismatic performer, whose influences range from Yuri, Mercedes Sosa, Janis Joplin to Annie Lennox to create a must-see spectacle like no other in the City of Angels.

The group is comprised of guitarist Gloria Estrada, accordion and requinto player Jose Carlos, bassist Alex Bendana, percussionist Miguel Ramirez, drummer Hugo Vargas and lead vocalist Marisoul. The band’s eclectic Latin sound is accentuated by Marisoul’s powerful performances during live shows that are more like all-out house parties, Mexico-style, as well as La Santa Cecilia’s constant and intimate connection to their fans via arts and crafts gatherings held prior to the shows. At the pre-party get-togethers, fans and musicians alike design collectable pins and different versions of album covers, available for sale as mementos at every show.

La Santa Cecilia’s work includes a self titled EP that features: the seductive carnival-in-a-song “SambaQue” , the provocative and spiteful “Se Va”, the soulful English language track “Jack”, Norteño powered accordion sound of “Chicle”, and the inventive Jewish musical influence on “Klezmer”.

The band’s music has been featured on the Emmy award-winning series “Weeds”, Brian Krinsky’s film “Dish”, the documentary “Re-Encounters” and KPFK’s darlings featured on

“4 O’clock Tuesday” with Gustavo Arellano and performed LIVE in studio on ‘Travel Tips For Aztlan’.

Through heartfelt music, homemade art and consistent live performances, La Santa Cecilia continues to connect with their fans – many of whom feel the band represents exactly who they are: a new generation of cultural hybrids whose creativity has no boundaries.
